Sometimes to maintain standards and discipline you must accept the burden of wearing the mantel of “The Bad Guy.” We live in a world where fear of unpopularity or being the focus of blame trumps honesty and integrity. The need for acceptance in the name of harmony when better judgment should prevail is acquiescence at its worst. Unwillingness to accept responsibility because of fear is the result of weakness and leadership’s worst hour. Thank God for the times I stood my ground and I was right. Thank God for the times my wife embraced me and told me, “It’s all right, I love you” – when I was wrong.
